Judge rules state workers compensation insurance fee increase unconstitutional
A Cook County judge froze an $18 million
business fee increase last week, a move that raised questions about
dozens of other fee increases that helped erase massive state deficits.
On
Friday, the Illinois State Chamber of Commerce, which sued the state
over the implementation of a fee on workers compensation insurance, is
hoping the judge will provide some clarification on how to proceed,
said Chamber President Doug Whitley. Businesses already have made
payments of these fees.
